إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنفَطَرَتۡ 1

Izas samaaa'un fatarat

إِذَا When

ٱلسَّمَاۡءُ the sky

ٱنفَطَرَتْ (is) cleft asunder,

When the sky breaks apart

82:2 Juz 30 * Page 587

وَإِذَا ٱلۡكَوَاكِبُ ٱنتَثَرَتۡ 2

Wa izal kawaakibun tasarat

وَإِذَا And when

ٱلْكَوَاكِبُ the stars

ٱنتَثَرَتْ scatter,

When the planets are scattered

82:3 Juz 30 * Page 587

وَإِذَا ٱلۡبِحَارُ فُجِّرَتۡ 3

Wa izal bihaaru fujjirat

وَإِذَا And when

ٱلْبِحَارُ the seas

فُجِّرَتْ are made to gush forth,

When the oceans are exploded

82:4 Juz 30 * Page 587

وَإِذَا ٱلۡقُبُورُ بُعۡثِرَتۡ 4

Wa izal qubooru bu'sirat

وَإِذَا And when

ٱلْقُبُورُ the graves

بُعْثِرَتْ are overturned,

When the tombs are strewn around

82:5 Juz 30 * Page 587

عَلِمَتۡ نَفۡسࣱ مَّا قَدَّمَتۡ وَأَخَّرَتۡ 5

Alimat nafsum maa qaddamat wa akhkharat

عَلِمَتْ Will know

نَفْسٍ a soul

مَّا what

قَدَّمَتْ it has sent forth

وَأَخَّرَتْ and left behind.

Each soul will know what it has advanced, and what it has deferred

82:6 Juz 30 * Page 587

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مَا غَرَّكَ بِرَبِّكَ ٱلۡكَرِيمِ 6

Yaaa ayyuhal insaaanu maa gharraka bi Rabbikal kareem

يَٰۡأَيُّهَا O

ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ man!

مَا What

غَرَّكَ has deceived you

بِرَبِّكَ concerning your Lord

ٱلْكَرِيمِ the Most Noble,

O man! What deluded you concerning your Lord, the Most Generous

82:7 Juz 30 * Page 587

ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَكَ فَسَوَّىٰكَ فَعَدَلَكَ 7

Allazee khalaqaka fasaw waaka fa'adalak

ٱلَّذِى Who

خَلَقَكَ created you,

فَسَوَّىٰكَ then fashioned you

فَعَدَلَكَ then balanced you?

He Who created you, and formed you, and proportioned you

82:8 Juz 30 * Page 587

فِيٓ أَيِّ صُورَةࣲ مَّا شَآءَ رَكَّبَكَ 8

Feee ayye sooratim maa shaaa'a rakkabak

فِىۡ In

أَىِّ whatever

صُورَةٌ form

مَّا what

شَاۡءَ He willed,

رَكَّبَكَ He assembled you.

In whatever shape He willed, He assembled you

82:9 Juz 30 * Page 587

كَلَّا بَلۡ تُكَذِّبُونَ بِٱلدِّينِ 9

Kalla bal tukazziboona bid deen

كَلَّا Nay!

بَلْ But

تُكَذِّبُونَ you deny

بِٱلدِّينِ the Judgment.

But you reject the religion

82:10 Juz 30 * Page 587

وَإِنَّ عَلَيۡكُمۡ لَحَٰفِظِينَ 10

Wa inna 'alaikum lahaa fizeen

وَإِنَّ And indeed,

عَلَيْكُمْ over you

لَحَٰفِظِينَ (are) surely guardians,

Though over you are watchers

82:11 Juz 30 * Page 587

كِرَامࣰ ا كَٰتِبِينَ 11

Kiraaman kaatibeen

كِرَامًا Noble

كَٰتِبِينَ recording,

Honest recorders

82:12 Juz 30 * Page 587

يَعۡلَمُونَ مَا تَفۡعَلُونَ 12

Ya'lamoona ma taf'aloon

يَعْلَمُونَ They know

مَا whatever

تَفْعَلُونَ you do.

They know everything you do

82:13 Juz 30 * Page 587

إِنَّ ٱلۡأَبۡرَارَ لَفِي نَعِيمࣲ‏ 13

Innal abraara lafee na'eem

إِنَّ Indeed,

ٱلْأَبْرَارَ the righteous

لَفِى (will be) surely in

نَعِيمٌ bliss,

The virtuous will be in bliss

82:14 Juz 30 * Page 587

وَإِنَّ ٱلۡفُجَّارَ لَفِي جَحِيمࣲ‏ 14

Wa innal fujjaara lafee jaheem

وَإِنَّ And indeed,

ٱلْفُجَّارَ the wicked

لَفِى (will be) surely in

جَحِيمٌ Hellfire.

While the wicked will be in Hell

82:15 Juz 30 * Page 587

يَصۡلَوۡنَهَا يَوۡمَ ٱلدِّينِ 15

Yaslawnahaa Yawmad Deen

يَصْلَوْنَهَا They will burn (in) it

يَوْمَ (on the) Day

ٱلدِّينِ (of) the Judgment,

They will enter it on the Day of Justice

82:16 Juz 30 * Page 587

وَمَا هُمۡ عَنۡهَا بِغَآئِبِينَ 16

Wa maa hum 'anhaa bighaaa 'ibeen

وَمَا And not

هُمْ they

عَنْهَا from it

بِغَاۡئِبِينَ (will be) absent.

And they will not be absent from it

82:17 Juz 30 * Page 587

وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا يَوۡمُ ٱلدِّينِ 17

Wa maaa adraaka maa Yawmud Deen

وَمَاۡ And what

أَدْرَىٰكَ can make you know

مَا what

يَوْمُ (is the) Day

ٱلدِّينِ (of) the Judgment?

But what will convey to you what the Day of Justice is

82:18 Juz 30 * Page 587

ثُمَّ مَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا يَوۡمُ ٱلدِّينِ 18

Summa maaa adraaka maa Yawmud Deen

ثُمَّ Then,

مَاۡ what

أَدْرَىٰكَ can make you know

مَا what

يَوْمُ (is the) Day

ٱلدِّينِ (of) the Judgment?

Then again, what will convey to you what the Day of Justice is

82:19 Juz 30 * Page 587

يَوۡمَ لَا تَمۡلِكُ نَفۡسࣱ لِّنَفۡسࣲ شَيۡـࣰٔ اۖ وَٱلۡأَمۡرُ يَوۡمَئِذࣲ لِّلَّهِ 19

Yawma laa tamliku nafsul linafsin shai'anw walamru yawma'izil lillaah

يَوْمَ (The) Day

لَا not

تَمْلِكُ will have power

نَفْسٍ a soul

لِّنَفْسٌ for a soul

شَيْـًْا anything,

وَٱلْأَمْرُ and the Command

يَوْمَئِذٌ that Day

لِّلَّهِ (will be) with Allah.

The Day when no soul will avail another soul anything; and the decision on that Day is God’s

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مَا غَرَّكَ بِرَبِّكَ ٱلۡكَرِيمِ (6)

O man! What deluded you concerning your Lord, the Most Generous

ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَكَ فَسَوَّىٰكَ فَعَدَلَكَ (7)

He Who created you, and formed you, and proportioned you

فِيٓ أَيِّ صُورَةࣲ مَّا شَآءَ رَكَّبَكَ (8)

In whatever shape He willed, He assembled you

كَلَّا بَلۡ تُكَذِّبُونَ بِٱلدِّينِ (9)

But you reject the religion

وَإِنَّ عَلَيۡكُمۡ لَحَٰفِظِينَ (10)

Though over you are watchers

كِرَامࣰ ا كَٰتِبِينَ (11)

Honest recorders

يَعۡلَمُونَ مَا تَفۡعَلُونَ (12)

They know everything you do

إِنَّ ٱلۡأَبۡرَارَ لَفِي نَعِيمࣲ‏ (13)

The virtuous will be in bliss

وَإِنَّ ٱلۡفُجَّارَ لَفِي جَحِيمࣲ‏ (14)

While the wicked will be in Hell

يَصۡلَوۡنَهَا يَوۡمَ ٱلدِّينِ (15)

They will enter it on the Day of Justice

وَمَا هُمۡ عَنۡهَا بِغَآئِبِينَ (16)

And they will not be absent from it

وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا يَوۡمُ ٱلدِّينِ (17)

But what will convey to you what the Day of Justice is

ثُمَّ مَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا يَوۡمُ ٱلدِّينِ (18)

Then again, what will convey to you what the Day of Justice is

يَوۡمَ لَا تَمۡلِكُ نَفۡسࣱ لِّنَفۡسࣲ شَيۡـࣰٔ اۖ وَٱلۡأَمۡرُ يَوۡمَئِذࣲ لِّلَّهِ (19)

The Day when no soul will avail another soul anything; and the decision on that Day is God’s
