Section 1: Verses 1–21
Thematic progression across verses 1–21
وَٱلصَّٰٓفَّٰتِ صَفࣰّ ا 1
Wassaaaffaati saffaa
By the aligners aligning
فَٱلزَّٰجِرَٰتِ زَجۡرࣰ ا 2
Fazzaajiraati zajraa
And the drivers driving
فَٱلتَّٰلِيَٰتِ ذِكۡرًا 3
Fattaaliyaati Zikra
And the reciters of the Reminder
إِنَّ إِلَٰهَكُمۡ لَوَٰحِدࣱ 4
Inna Illaahakum la Waahid
Your God is indeed One
رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَا وَرَبُّ ٱلۡمَشَٰرِقِ 5
Rabbus samaawaati wal ardi wa maa bainahumaa wa Rabbul mashaariq
Lord of the heavens and the earth, and everything between them; and Lord of the Easts
إِنَّا زَيَّنَّا ٱلسَّمَآءَ ٱلدُّنۡيَا بِزِينَةٍ ٱلۡكَوَاكِبِ 6
Innaa zaiyannas samaaa 'ad dunyaa bizeenatinil kawaakib
We have adorned the lower heaven with the beauty of the planets
وَحِفۡظࣰ ا مِّن كُلِّ شَيۡطَٰنࣲ مَّارِدࣲ 7
Wa hifzam min kulli Shaitaanim maarid
And guarded it against every defiant devil
لَّا يَسَّمَّعُونَ إِلَى ٱلۡمَلَإِ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰ وَيُقۡذَفُونَ مِن كُلِّ جَانِبࣲ 8
Laa yassamma 'oona ilal mala il a'alaa wa yuqzafoona min kulli jaanib
They cannot eavesdrop on the Supernal Elite, for they get bombarded from every side
دُحُورࣰ اۖ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابࣱ وَاصِبٌ 9
Duhooranw wa lahum 'azaabunw waasib
Repelled—they will have a lingering torment
إِلَّا مَنۡ خَطِفَ ٱلۡخَطۡفَةَ فَأَتۡبَعَهُۥ شِهَابࣱ ثَاقِبࣱ 10
Illaa man khatifal khatfata fa atba'ahoo shihaabun saaqib
Except for him who snatches a fragment—he gets pursued by a piercing projectile
فَٱسۡتَفۡتِهِمۡ أَهُمۡ أَشَدُّ خَلۡقًا أَم مَّنۡ خَلَقۡنَآۚ إِنَّا خَلَقۡنَٰهُم مِّن طِينࣲ لَّازِبِۭ 11
Fastaftihim ahum ashaddu khalqan am man khalaqnaa; innaa khalaqnaahum min teenil laazib
Inquire of them, “Are they more difficult to create, or the others We created?” We created them from sticky clay
بَلۡ عَجِبۡتَ وَيَسۡخَرُونَ 12
Bal'ajibta wa yaskharoon
But you wonder, and they ridicule
وَإِذَا ذُكِّرُواْ لَا يَذۡكُرُونَ 13
Wa izaa zukkiroo laa yazkuroon
And when reminded, they pay no attention
وَإِذَا رَأَوۡاْ ءَايَةࣰ يَسۡتَسۡخِرُونَ 14
Wa izaa ra aw Aayatinw yastaskhiroon
And when they see a sign, they ridicule
وَقَالُوٓاْ إِنۡ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحۡرࣱ مُّبِينٌ 15
Wa qaalooo in haazaa illaa sihrum mubeen
And they say, “This is nothing but plain magic
أَءِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابࣰ ا وَعِظَٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبۡعُوثُونَ 16
A-izaa mitnaa wa kunnaa turaabanw wa 'izaaman 'ainnaa lamab'oosoon
When we have died and become dust and bones, shall we be resurrected
أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ 17
Awa aabaa'unal awwaloon
And our ancestors of old?”
قُلۡ نَعَمۡ وَأَنتُمۡ دَٰخِرُونَ 18
Qul na'am wa antum daakhiroon
Say, “Yes indeed, and you will be totally subdued.”
فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ زَجۡرَةࣱ وَٰحِدَةࣱ فَإِذَا هُمۡ يَنظُرُونَ 19
Fa innamaa hiya zajra tunw waahidatun fa izaa hum yanzuroon
It will be a single nudge, and they will be staring
وَقَالُواْ يَٰوَيۡلَنَا هَٰذَا يَوۡمُ ٱلدِّينِ 20
Qa qaaloo yaa wailanaa haazaa Yawmud-Deen
They will say, “Woe to us. This is the Day of Judgment.”
هَٰذَا يَوۡمُ ٱلۡفَصۡلِ ٱلَّذِي كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ 21
Haazaa Yawmul Faslil lazee kuntum bihee tukaziboon
“This is the Day of Separation which you used to deny
Section 2: Verses 22–74
Thematic progression across verses 22–74
۞ٱحۡشُرُواْ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ وَأَزۡوَٰجَهُمۡ وَمَا كَانُواْ يَعۡبُدُونَ 22
Uhshurul lazeena zalamoo wa azwaajahum wa maa kaanoo ya'budoon
Gather those who did wrong, and their mates, and what they used to worship
مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ فَٱهۡدُوهُمۡ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطِ ٱلۡجَحِيمِ 23
Min doonil laahi fahdoohum ilaa siraatil Jaheem
Besides God, and lead them to the way to Hell
وَقِفُوهُمۡۖ إِنَّهُم مَّسۡـُٔولُونَ 24
Wa qifoohum innahum mas'ooloon
And stop them. They are to be questioned.”
مَا لَكُمۡ لَا تَنَاصَرُونَ 25
Maa lakum laa tanaasaroon
What is the matter with you? Why do you not help one another
بَلۡ هُمُ ٱلۡيَوۡمَ مُسۡتَسۡلِمُونَ 26
Bal humul Yawma mustaslimoon
In fact, on that Day, they will be submissive
وَأَقۡبَلَ بَعۡضُهُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضࣲ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ 27
Wa aqbala ba'duhum 'alaa ba'diny yatasaaa'aloon
They will come to one another, questioning one another
قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّكُمۡ كُنتُمۡ تَأۡتُونَنَا عَنِ ٱلۡيَمِينِ 28
Qaalooo innakum kuntum taatoonanaa 'anil yameen
They will say, “You used to come at us from the right.”
قَالُواْ بَل لَّمۡ تَكُونُواْ مُؤۡمِنِينَ 29
Qaaloo bal lam takoonoo mu'mineen
They will say, “You yourselves were not believers
وَمَا كَانَ لَنَا عَلَيۡكُم مِّن سُلۡطَٰنِۭۖ بَلۡ كُنتُمۡ قَوۡمࣰ ا طَٰغِينَ 30
Wa maa kaana lanaa 'alaikum min sultaanim bal kuntum qawman taagheen
We had no authority over you. You yourselves were rebellious people
فَحَقَّ عَلَيۡنَا قَوۡلُ رَبِّنَآۖ إِنَّا لَذَآئِقُونَ 31
Fahaqqa 'alainaa qawlu Rabbinaaa innaa lazaaa'iqoon
The Word of our Lord has been realized against us. We are tasting it
فَأَغۡوَيۡنَٰكُمۡ إِنَّا كُنَّا غَٰوِينَ 32
Fa aghwainaakum innaa kunnaa ghaaween
We seduced you. We were seducers.”
فَإِنَّهُمۡ يَوۡمَئِذࣲ فِي ٱلۡعَذَابِ مُشۡتَرِكُونَ 33
Fa innahum Yawma'izin fil'azaabi mushtarikoon
On that Day, they will share in the punishment
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَفۡعَلُ بِٱلۡمُجۡرِمِينَ 34
Innaa kazaalika naf'alu bil mujrimeen
Thus We deal with the sinners
إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوٓاْ إِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمۡ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ يَسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ 35
Innahum kaanooo izaa qeela lahum laaa ilaaha illal laahu yastakbiroon
When it was said to them, “There is no god except God,” they grew arrogant
وَيَقُولُونَ أَئِنَّا لَتَارِكُوٓاْ ءَالِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرࣲ مَّجۡنُونِۭ 36
Wa yaqooloona a'innaa lataarikooo aalihatinaa lishaa'irim majnoon
And said, “Are we to abandon our gods for a mad poet?”
بَلۡ جَآءَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ 37
bal jaaa'a bilhaqqi wa saddaqal mursaleen
In fact, he came with the truth, and he confirmed the messengers
إِنَّكُمۡ لَذَآئِقُواْ ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٱلۡأَلِيمِ 38
Innakum lazaaa'iqul 'azaabil aleem
Most assuredly, you will taste the painful punishment
وَمَا تُجۡزَوۡنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ 39
Wa maa tujzawna illaa maa kuntum ta'maloon
And you will be repaid only for what you used to do
إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَ 40
Illaa 'ibaadal laahil mukhlaseen
Except for God’s sincere servants
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمۡ رِزۡقࣱ مَّعۡلُومࣱ 41
Ulaaa'ika lahum rizqum ma'loom
For them is a known provision
فَوَٰكِهُ وَهُم مُّكۡرَمُونَ 42
Fa waakihu wa hum mukramoon
Fruits; and they will be honored
فِي جَنَّٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ 43
Fee jannaatin Na'eem
In the Gardens of Bliss
عَلَىٰ سُرُرࣲ مُّتَقَٰبِلِينَ 44
Alaa sururim mutaqaa bileen
On furnishings, facing one another
يُطَافُ عَلَيۡهِم بِكَأۡسࣲ مِّن مَّعِينِۭ 45
Yutaafu 'alaihim bikaasim mim ma'een
They will be offered a cup of pure drink
بَيۡضَآءَ لَذَّةࣲ لِّلشَّٰرِبِينَ 46
Baidaaa'a laz zatil lish shaaribeen
White; a delight to those who drink
لَا فِيهَا غَوۡلࣱ وَلَا هُمۡ عَنۡهَا يُنزَفُونَ 47
Laa feehaa ghawlunw wa laa hum 'anhaa yunzafoon
Never polluted, and never intoxicating
وَعِندَهُمۡ قَٰصِرَٰتُ ٱلطَّرۡفِ عِينࣱ 48
Wa 'indahum qaasiraatut tarfi 'een
With them will be bashful women with lovely eyes
كَأَنَّهُنَّ بَيۡضࣱ مَّكۡنُونࣱ 49
Ka annahunna baidum maknoon
As if they were closely guarded pearls
فَأَقۡبَلَ بَعۡضُهُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضࣲ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ 50
Fa aqbala ba'duhum 'alaa badiny yatasaaa 'aloon
Then they will approach one another, questioning
قَالَ قَآئِلࣱ مِّنۡهُمۡ إِنِّي كَانَ لِي قَرِينࣱ 51
Qaala qaaa'ilum minhum innee kaana lee qareen
One of them will say, “I used to have a friend
يَقُولُ أَءِنَّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلۡمُصَدِّقِينَ 52
Yaqoolu a'innnaka laminal musaddiqeen
Who used to say, “Are you of those who believe
أَءِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابࣰ ا وَعِظَٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَدِينُونَ 53
A-izaa mitnaa wa kunnaa turaabanw wa 'izaaman 'ainnaa lamadeenoon
That after we die and become dust and bones, we will be called to account?”
قَالَ هَلۡ أَنتُم مُّطَّلِعُونَ 54
Qaala hal antum muttali'oon
He will say, “Will you have a look?”
فَٱطَّلَعَ فَرَءَاهُ فِي سَوَآءِ ٱلۡجَحِيمِ 55
Fattala'a fara aahu fee sawaaa'il Jaheem
He will look, and will see him in the pit of Hell
قَالَ تَٱللَّهِ إِن كِدتَّ لَتُرۡدِينِ 56
Qaala tallaahi in kitta laturdeen
He will say, “By God, you almost ruined me
وَلَوۡلَا نِعۡمَةُ رَبِّي لَكُنتُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُحۡضَرِينَ 57
Wa law laa ni'matu Rabbee lakuntu minal muhdareen
Were it not for the grace of my Lord, I would have been among the arraigned.”
أَفَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمَيِّتِينَ 58
Afamaa nahnu bimaiyiteen
“We will not die
إِلَّا مَوۡتَتَنَا ٱلۡأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ 59
Illa mawtatanal oola wa maa nahnu bimu'azzabeen
Except for our first death, and we will not be punished.”
إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡعَظِيمُ 60
Inna haazaa falya'ma lil'aamiloon
This is the supreme triumph
لِمِثۡلِ هَٰذَا فَلۡيَعۡمَلِ ٱلۡعَٰمِلُونَ 61
Limisli haaza falya'ma lil 'aamiloon
For the like of this let the workers work
أَذَٰلِكَ خَيۡرࣱ نُّزُلًا أَمۡ شَجَرَةُ ٱلزَّقُّومِ 62
Azaalika khairun nuzulan am shajaratuz Zaqqom
Is this a better hospitality, or the Tree of Bitterness
إِنَّا جَعَلۡنَٰهَا فِتۡنَةࣰ لِّلظَّٰلِمِينَ 63
Innaa ja'alnaahaa fitnatal lizzaalimeen
We made it an ordeal for the unjust
إِنَّهَا شَجَرَةࣱ تَخۡرُجُ فِيٓ أَصۡلِ ٱلۡجَحِيمِ 64
Innahaa shajaratun takhruju feee aslil Jaheem
It is a tree that grows from the bottom of Hell
طَلۡعُهَا كَأَنَّهُۥ رُءُوسُ ٱلشَّيَٰطِينِ 65
Tal'uhaa ka annahoo ru'oosush Shayaateen
Its fruits are like the devils’ heads
فَإِنَّهُمۡ لَأٓكِلُونَ مِنۡهَا فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنۡهَا ٱلۡبُطُونَ 66
Fa innahum la aakiloona minhaa famaali'oona minhal butoon
They will eat from it, and fill their bellies with it
ثُمَّ إِنَّ لَهُمۡ عَلَيۡهَا لَشَوۡبࣰ ا مِّنۡ حَمِيمࣲ 67
Summa inna lahum 'alaihaa lashawbam min hameem
Then, on top of it, they will have a brew of boiling liquid
ثُمَّ إِنَّ مَرۡجِعَهُمۡ لَإِلَى ٱلۡجَحِيمِ 68
Summa inna marji'ahum la ilal Jaheem
Then their return will be to the Blaze
إِنَّهُمۡ أَلۡفَوۡاْ ءَابَآءَهُمۡ ضَآلِّينَ 69
Innahum alfaw aabaaa'ahum daaalleen
They had found their parents astray
فَهُمۡ عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَٰرِهِمۡ يُهۡرَعُونَ 70
Fahum 'alaa aasaarihim yuhra'oon
And rushed along in their footsteps
وَلَقَدۡ ضَلَّ قَبۡلَهُمۡ أَكۡثَرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ 71
Wa laqad dalla qablahum aksarul awwaleen
And most of the ancients before them went astray
وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا فِيهِم مُّنذِرِينَ 72
Wa laqad arsalnaa feehim munzireen
Even though We sent messengers to warn them
فَٱنظُرۡ كَيۡفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلۡمُنذَرِينَ 73
Fanzur kaifa kaana 'aaqibatul munzareen
So observe the end of those who were warned
إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَ 74
Illaa 'ibaadal laahil mukhlaseen
Except for the sincere servants of God
Section 3: Verses 75–113
Thematic progression across verses 75–113
وَلَقَدۡ نَادَىٰنَا نُوحࣱ فَلَنِعۡمَ ٱلۡمُجِيبُونَ 75
Wa laqad naadaanaa Noohun falani'mal mujeeboon
And Noah called out to Us, and We are the Best of responders
وَنَجَّيۡنَٰهُ وَأَهۡلَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلۡكَرۡبِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ 76
Wa jajainaahu wa ahlahoo minal karbil 'azeem
And We saved him and his family from the great calamity
وَجَعَلۡنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُۥ هُمُ ٱلۡبَاقِينَ 77
Wa ja'alnaa zurriyyatahoo hummul baaqeen
And We made his descendants the survivors
وَتَرَكۡنَا عَلَيۡهِ فِي ٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ 78
Wa taraknaa 'alaihi fil aakhireen
And We left mention of him among those who succeeded
سَلَٰمٌ عَلَىٰ نُوحࣲ فِي ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ 79
Salaamun 'alaa Noohin fil 'aalameen
Peace be upon Noah among all people
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجۡزِي ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ 80
Innaa kazaalika najzil muhsineen
We thus reward the righteous
إِنَّهُۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ 81
Innahoo min 'ibaadinal mu'mineen
He was one of Our believing servants
ثُمَّ أَغۡرَقۡنَا ٱلۡأٓخَرِينَ 82
Summa aghraqnal aakhareen
Then We drowned the others
۞وَإِنَّ مِن شِيعَتِهِۦ لَإِبۡرَٰهِيمَ 83
Wa ina min shee'atihee la Ibraaheem
Of his kind was Abraham
إِذۡ جَآءَ رَبَّهُۥ بِقَلۡبࣲ سَلِيمٍ 84
Iz jaaa'a Rabbahoo bi qalbin saleem
When he came to his Lord with a sound heart
إِذۡ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوۡمِهِۦ مَاذَا تَعۡبُدُونَ 85
Iz qaala li abeehi wa qawmihee maazaa ta'budoon
He said to his father and his people, “What are you worshiping
أَئِفۡكًا ءَالِهَةࣰ دُونَ ٱللَّهِ تُرِيدُونَ 86
A'ifkan aalihatan doonal laahi tureedoon
Is it falsified gods, instead of God, that you want
فَمَا ظَنُّكُم بِرَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ 87
Famaa zannukum bi Rabbil'aalameen
So what is your opinion about the Lord of the Worlds?”
فَنَظَرَ نَظۡرَةࣰ فِي ٱلنُّجُومِ 88
Fanazara nazratan finnujoom
Then he took a glance at the stars
فَقَالَ إِنِّي سَقِيمࣱ 89
Faqaala inee saqeem
And said, “I am sick.”
فَتَوَلَّوۡاْ عَنۡهُ مُدۡبِرِينَ 90
Fatawallaw 'anhu mudbireen
But they turned their backs on him, and went away
فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰٓ ءَالِهَتِهِمۡ فَقَالَ أَلَا تَأۡكُلُونَ 91
Faraagha ilaaa aalihatihim faqaala alaa taakuloon
Then he turned to their gods, and said, “will you not eat
مَا لَكُمۡ لَا تَنطِقُونَ 92
Maa lakum laa tantiqoon
What is it with you, that you do not speak?”
فَرَاغَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ ضَرۡبَۢا بِٱلۡيَمِينِ 93
Faraagha 'alaihim darbam bilyameen
Then he turned on them, striking with his right hand
فَأَقۡبَلُوٓاْ إِلَيۡهِ يَزِفُّونَ 94
Fa aqbalooo ilaihi yaziffoon
And they came running towards him
قَالَ أَتَعۡبُدُونَ مَا تَنۡحِتُونَ 95
Qaala ata'budoona maa tanhitoon
He said, “Do you worship what you carve
وَٱللَّهُ خَلَقَكُمۡ وَمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ 96
Wallaahu khalaqakum wa maa ta'maloon
When God created you, and what you manufacture?”
قَالُواْ ٱبۡنُواْ لَهُۥ بُنۡيَٰنࣰ ا فَأَلۡقُوهُ فِي ٱلۡجَحِيمِ 97
Qaalub noo lahoo bun yaanan fa alqoohu fil jaheem
They said, “Build a pyre for him, and throw him into the furnace.”
فَأَرَادُواْ بِهِۦ كَيۡدࣰ ا فَجَعَلۡنَٰهُمُ ٱلۡأَسۡفَلِينَ 98
Fa araadoo bihee kaidan faja 'alnaahumul asfaleen
They wished him ill, but We made them the losers
وَقَالَ إِنِّي ذَاهِبٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّي سَيَهۡدِينِ 99
Wa qaala innee zaahibun ilaa Rabbee sa yahdeen
He said, “I am going towards my Lord, and He will guide me.”
رَبِّ هَبۡ لِي مِنَ ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ 100
Rabbi hab lee minas saaliheen
“My Lord, give me one of the righteous.”
فَبَشَّرۡنَٰهُ بِغُلَٰمٍ حَلِيمࣲ 101
Fabashsharnaahu bighulaamin haleem
So We gave him good news of a clement boy
فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ مَعَهُ ٱلسَّعۡيَ قَالَ يَٰبُنَيَّ إِنِّيٓ أَرَىٰ فِي ٱلۡمَنَامِ أَنِّيٓ أَذۡبَحُكَ فَٱنظُرۡ مَاذَا تَرَىٰۚ قَالَ يَٰٓأَبَتِ ٱفۡعَلۡ مَا تُؤۡمَرُۖ سَتَجِدُنِيٓ إِن شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰبِرِينَ 102
Falamma balagha ma'a hus sa'ya qaala yaa buniya inneee araa fil manaami anneee azbahuka fanzur maazaa taraa; qaala yaaa abatif 'al maa tu'maru satajidunee in shaaa'allaahu minas saabireen
Then, when he was old enough to accompany him, he said, “O My son, I see in a dream that I am sacrificing you; see what you think.” He said, “O my Father, do as you are commanded; you will find me, God willing, one of the steadfast.”
فَلَمَّآ أَسۡلَمَا وَتَلَّهُۥ لِلۡجَبِينِ 103
Falammaaa aslamaa wa tallahoo liljabeen
Then, when they had submitted, and he put his forehead down
وَنَٰدَيۡنَٰهُ أَن يَٰٓإِبۡرَٰهِيمُ 104
Wa naadainaahu ai yaaaa Ibraheem
We called out to him, “O Abraham
قَدۡ صَدَّقۡتَ ٱلرُّءۡيَآۚ إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجۡزِي ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ 105
Qad saddaqtar ru'yaa; innaa kazaalika najzil muhsineen
You have fulfilled the vision.” Thus We reward the doers of good
إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلۡبَلَٰٓؤُاْ ٱلۡمُبِينُ 106
Inna haazaa lahuwal balaaa'ul mubeen
This was certainly an evident test
وَفَدَيۡنَٰهُ بِذِبۡحٍ عَظِيمࣲ 107
Wa fadainaahu bizibhin 'azeem
And We redeemed him with a great sacrifice
وَتَرَكۡنَا عَلَيۡهِ فِي ٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ 108
Wa taraknaa 'alaihi fil aakhireen
And We left with him for later generations
سَلَٰمٌ عَلَىٰٓ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ 109
Salaamun 'alaaa Ibraaheem
Peace be upon Abraham
كَذَٰلِكَ نَجۡزِي ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ 110
Kazaalika najzil muhsineen
Thus We reward the doers of good
إِنَّهُۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ 111
Innahoo min 'ibaadinal mu'mineen
He was one of Our believing servants
وَبَشَّرۡنَٰهُ بِإِسۡحَٰقَ نَبِيࣰّ ا مِّنَ ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ 112
Wa bashsharnaahu bi Ishaaqa Nabiyayam minas saaliheen
And We gave him good news of Isaac, a prophet, one of the righteous
وَبَٰرَكۡنَا عَلَيۡهِ وَعَلَىٰٓ إِسۡحَٰقَۚ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا مُحۡسِنࣱ وَظَالِمࣱ لِّنَفۡسِهِۦ مُبِينࣱ 113
Wa baaraknaa 'alaihi wa 'alaaa Ishaaq; wa min zurriyya tihimaa muhsinunw wa zaalimul linafshihee mubeen
And We blessed him, and Isaac. But among their descendants are some who are righteous, and some who are clearly unjust to themselves
Section 4: Verses 114–138

وَلَقَدۡ مَنَنَّا عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَٰرُونَ 114
Wa laqad mananna alaa Moosaa wa Haaroon
And We blessed Moses and Aaron
وَنَجَّيۡنَٰهُمَا وَقَوۡمَهُمَا مِنَ ٱلۡكَرۡبِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ 115
Wa najjainaahumaa wa qawmahumaa minal karbil 'azeem
And We delivered them and their people from the terrible disaster
وَنَصَرۡنَٰهُمۡ فَكَانُواْ هُمُ ٱلۡغَٰلِبِينَ 116
Wa nasarnaahum fakaanoo humul ghaalibeen
And We supported them, and so they were the victors
وَءَاتَيۡنَٰهُمَا ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ ٱلۡمُسۡتَبِينَ 117
Wa aatainaahumal Kitaabal mustabeen
And We gave them the Clarifying Scripture
وَهَدَيۡنَٰهُمَا ٱلصِّرَٰطَ ٱلۡمُسۡتَقِيمَ 118
Wa hadainaahumus Siraatal Mustaqeem
And We guided them upon the straight path
وَتَرَكۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمَا فِي ٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ 119
Wa taraknaa 'alaihimaa fil aakhireen
And We left with them for later generations
سَلَٰمٌ عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَٰرُونَ 120
Salaamun 'alaa Moosaa wa Haaroon
Peace be upon Moses and Aaron
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجۡزِي ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ 121
Innaa kazaalika najzil muhsineen
Thus We reward the righteous
إِنَّهُمَا مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ 122
Innahumaa min 'ibaadinal mu'mineen
They were of Our believing servants
وَإِنَّ إِلۡيَاسَ لَمِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ 123
Wa inna Ilyaasa laminal mursaleen
Also Elijah was one of the messengers
إِذۡ قَالَ لِقَوۡمِهِۦٓ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ 124
Iz qaala liqawmiheee alaa tattaqoon
He said to his people, “Do you not fear
أَتَدۡعُونَ بَعۡلࣰ ا وَتَذَرُونَ أَحۡسَنَ ٱلۡخَٰلِقِينَ 125
Atad'oona Ba'lanw wa tazaroona ahsanal khaaliqeen
Do you call on Baal, and forsake the Best of creators
ٱللَّهَ رَبَّكُمۡ وَرَبَّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ 126
Allaaha Rabbakum wa Rabba aabaaa'ikumul awwaleen
God is your Lord, and the Lord of your ancestors.”
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَإِنَّهُمۡ لَمُحۡضَرُونَ 127
Fakazzaboohu fa inna hum lamuhdaroon
But they called him a liar, and thus they will be brought forward
إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَ 128
Illaa 'ibaadal laahil mukhlaseen
Except for God’s sincere servants
وَتَرَكۡنَا عَلَيۡهِ فِي ٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ 129
Wa taraknaa 'alaihi fil aakhireen
And We left with him for later generations
سَلَٰمٌ عَلَىٰٓ إِلۡ يَاسِينَ 130
Salaamun 'alaaa Ilyaaseen
Peace be upon the House of Elijah
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجۡزِي ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ 131
Innaa kazaalika najzil muhsineen
Thus We reward the virtuous
إِنَّهُۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ 132
Innahoo min 'ibaadinal mu'mineen
He was one of Our believing servants
وَإِنَّ لُوطࣰ ا لَّمِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ 133
Wa inna Lootal laminal mursaleen
And Lot was one of the messengers
إِذۡ نَجَّيۡنَٰهُ وَأَهۡلَهُۥٓ أَجۡمَعِينَ 134
Iz najjainaahu wa ahlahooo ajma'een
We saved him and his family, all of them
إِلَّا عَجُوزࣰ ا فِي ٱلۡغَٰبِرِينَ 135
Illaa 'ajoozan fil ghaabireen
Except for an old woman who lagged behind
ثُمَّ دَمَّرۡنَا ٱلۡأٓخَرِينَ 136
Summa dammarnal aakhareen
Then We annihilated the others
وَإِنَّكُمۡ لَتَمُرُّونَ عَلَيۡهِم مُّصۡبِحِينَ 137
Wa innakum latamurroona 'alaihim musbiheen
You pass by them in the morning
وَبِٱلَّيۡلِۚ أَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُونَ 138
Wa billail; afalaa ta'qiloon
And at night. Do you not understand
Section 5: Verses 139–182

وَإِنَّ يُونُسَ لَمِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ 139
Wa inna Yoonusa laminal mursaleen
And Jonah was one of the messengers
إِذۡ أَبَقَ إِلَى ٱلۡفُلۡكِ ٱلۡمَشۡحُونِ 140
Iz abaqa ilal fulkil mash hoon
When he fled to the laden boat
فَسَاهَمَ فَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُدۡحَضِينَ 141
Fasaahama fakaana minal mudhadeen
He gambled and lost
فَٱلۡتَقَمَهُ ٱلۡحُوتُ وَهُوَ مُلِيمࣱ 142
Faltaqamahul hootu wa huwa muleem
Then the fish swallowed him, and he was to blame
فَلَوۡلَآ أَنَّهُۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُسَبِّحِينَ 143
Falaw laaa annahoo kaana minal musabbiheen
Had he not been one of those who praised
لَلَبِثَ فِي بَطۡنِهِۦٓ إِلَىٰ يَوۡمِ يُبۡعَثُونَ 144
Lalabisa fee batniheee ilaa Yawmi yub'asoon
He would have stayed in its belly until the Day they are raised
۞فَنَبَذۡنَٰهُ بِٱلۡعَرَآءِ وَهُوَ سَقِيمࣱ 145
Fanabaznaahu bil'araaa'i wa huwa saqeem
Then We threw him into the wilderness, and he was sick
وَأَنۢبَتۡنَا عَلَيۡهِ شَجَرَةࣰ مِّن يَقۡطِينࣲ 146
Wa ambatnaa 'alaihi shajaratam mai yaqteen
And We made a gourd tree grow over him
وَأَرۡسَلۡنَٰهُ إِلَىٰ مِاْئَةِ أَلۡفٍ أَوۡ يَزِيدُونَ 147
Wa arsalnaahu ilaa mi'ati alfin aw yazeedoon
Then We sent him to a hundred thousand, or more
فَـَٔامَنُواْ فَمَتَّعۡنَٰهُمۡ إِلَىٰ حِينࣲ 148
Fa aamanoo famatta' naahum ilaa heen
And they believed, so We gave them enjoyment for a while
فَٱسۡتَفۡتِهِمۡ أَلِرَبِّكَ ٱلۡبَنَاتُ وَلَهُمُ ٱلۡبَنُونَ 149
Fastaftihim ali Rabbikal banaatu wa lahumul banoon
Ask them, “Are the daughters for your Lord, while for them the sons?”
أَمۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ إِنَٰثࣰ ا وَهُمۡ شَٰهِدُونَ 150
Am khalaqnal malaaa'i kata inaasanw wa hm shaahidoon
Or did We create the angels females, as they witnessed?”
أَلَآ إِنَّهُم مِّنۡ إِفۡكِهِمۡ لَيَقُولُونَ 151
Alaaa innahum min ifkihim la yaqooloon
No indeed! It is one of their lies when they say
وَلَدَ ٱللَّهُ وَإِنَّهُمۡ لَكَٰذِبُونَ 152
Waladal laahu wa innhum lakaaziboon
“God has begotten.” They are indeed lying
أَصۡطَفَى ٱلۡبَنَاتِ عَلَى ٱلۡبَنِينَ 153
Astafal banaati 'alal baneen
So He preferred girls over boys
مَا لَكُمۡ كَيۡفَ تَحۡكُمُونَ 154
Maa lakum kaifa tahkumoon
What is the matter with you? How do you judge
أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ 155
Afalaa tazakkaroon
Will you not reflect
أَمۡ لَكُمۡ سُلۡطَٰنࣱ مُّبِينࣱ 156
Am lakum sultaanum mubeen
Or do you have some clear proof
فَأۡتُواْ بِكِتَٰبِكُمۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَٰدِقِينَ 157
Faatoo bi Kitaabikum in kuntum saadiqeen
Then bring your book, if you are telling the truth
وَجَعَلُواْ بَيۡنَهُۥ وَبَيۡنَ ٱلۡجِنَّةِ نَسَبࣰ اۚ وَلَقَدۡ عَلِمَتِ ٱلۡجِنَّةُ إِنَّهُمۡ لَمُحۡضَرُونَ 158
Wa ja'aloo bainahoo wa bainal jinnati nasabaa; wa laqad 'alimatil jinnatu innahum lamuhdaroon
And they invented a relationship between Him and the jinn. But the jinn know that they will be arraigned
سُبۡحَٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ 159
Subhaanal laahi 'ammaa yasifoon
God be glorified, far above what they allege
إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَ 160
Illaa 'ibaadal laahil mukhlaseen
Except for God’s sincere servants
فَإِنَّكُمۡ وَمَا تَعۡبُدُونَ 161
Fa innakum wa maa ta'ubdoon
Surely, you and what you serve
مَآ أَنتُمۡ عَلَيۡهِ بِفَٰتِنِينَ 162
Maaa antum 'alaihi befaaatineen
Cannot seduce away from Him
إِلَّا مَنۡ هُوَ صَالِ ٱلۡجَحِيمِ 163
Illaa man huwa saalil jaheem
Except for he who will be roasting in Hell
وَمَا مِنَّآ إِلَّا لَهُۥ مَقَامࣱ مَّعۡلُومࣱ 164
Wa maa minnasa illaa lahoo maqaamum ma'loom
“There is not one of us but has an assigned position
وَإِنَّا لَنَحۡنُ ٱلصَّآفُّونَ 165
Wa innaa llanah nus saaffoon
And we are the arrangers
وَإِنَّا لَنَحۡنُ ٱلۡمُسَبِّحُونَ 166
Wa innaa lanah nul musabbihoon
And we are the glorifiers.”
وَإِن كَانُواْ لَيَقُولُونَ 167
Wa in kaanoo la yaqooloon
Even though they used to say
لَوۡ أَنَّ عِندَنَا ذِكۡرࣰ ا مِّنَ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ 168
Law anna 'indana zikram minal awwaleen
“Had we received advice from the ancients
لَكُنَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَ 169
Lakunna 'ibaadal laahil mukhlaseen
We would have been God's faithful servants.”
فَكَفَرُواْ بِهِۦۖ فَسَوۡفَ يَعۡلَمُونَ 170
Fakafaroo bihee fasawfa ya'lamoon
But they rejected it, so they will find out
وَلَقَدۡ سَبَقَتۡ كَلِمَتُنَا لِعِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ 171
Wa laqad sabaqat Kalimatunaa li'ibaadinal mursa leen
Our Word has already gone out to our servant messengers
إِنَّهُمۡ لَهُمُ ٱلۡمَنصُورُونَ 172
Innaa hum lahumul mansooroon
It is they who will be supported
وَإِنَّ جُندَنَا لَهُمُ ٱلۡغَٰلِبُونَ 173
Wa inna jundana lahumul ghaaliboon
And Our troops will be the victors
فَتَوَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ حِينࣲ 174
Fatawalla 'anhum hatta heen
So disregard them for a while
وَأَبۡصِرۡهُمۡ فَسَوۡفَ يُبۡصِرُونَ 175
Wa absirhum fasawfa yubsiroon
And watch them—they will soon see
أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا يَسۡتَعۡجِلُونَ 176
Afabi'azaabinaa yasta'jiloon
Are they seeking to hasten Our punishment
فَإِذَا نَزَلَ بِسَاحَتِهِمۡ فَسَآءَ صَبَاحُ ٱلۡمُنذَرِينَ 177
Fa izaa nazala bisaahatihim fasaaa'a sabaahul munzareen
When it descends into their yard, miserable will be the morning of those forewarned
وَتَوَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ حِينࣲ 178
Wa tawalla 'anhum hattaa heen
So avoid them for a while
وَأَبۡصِرۡ فَسَوۡفَ يُبۡصِرُونَ 179
Wa absir fasawfa yubsiroon
And watch—they will soon see
سُبۡحَٰنَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ ٱلۡعِزَّةِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ 180
Subhaana Rabbika Rabbil 'izzati 'amma yasifoon
Exalted be your Lord, the Lord of Glory, beyond their allegations
وَسَلَٰمٌ عَلَى ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ 181
Wa salaamun 'alalmursaleen
And peace be upon the messengers
وَٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ 182
Walhamdu lillaahi Rabbil 'aalameen
And praise be to God, the Lord of the Worlds

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي كُرَيْبٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم نَامَ حَتَّى نَفَخَ ثُمَّ صَلَّى ـ وَرُبَّمَا قَالَ اضْطَجَعَ حَتَّى نَفَخَ ـ ثُمَّ قَامَ فَصَلَّى. ثُمَّ حَدَّثَنَا بِهِ سُفْيَانُ مَرَّةً بَعْدَ مَرَّةٍ عَنْ عَمْرٍو عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ بِتُّ عِنْدَ خَالَتِي مَيْمُونَةَ لَيْلَةً، فَقَامَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم مِنَ اللَّيْلِ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ فِي بَعْضِ اللَّيْلِ قَامَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَتَوَضَّأَ مِنْ شَنٍّ مُعَلَّقٍ وُضُوءًا خَفِيفًا ـ يُخَفِّفُهُ عَمْرٌو وَيُقَلِّلُهُ ـ وَقَامَ يُصَلِّي فَتَوَضَّأْتُ نَحْوًا مِمَّا تَوَضَّأَ، ثُمَّ جِئْتُ فَقُمْتُ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ ـ وَرُبَّمَا قَالَ سُفْيَانُ عَنْ شِمَالِهِ ـ فَحَوَّلَنِي فَجَعَلَنِي عَنْ يَمِينِهِ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ، ثُمَّ اضْطَجَعَ، فَنَامَ حَتَّى نَفَخَ، ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ الْمُنَادِي فَآذَنَهُ بِالصَّلاَةِ، فَقَامَ مَعَهُ إِلَى الصَّلاَةِ، فَصَلَّى وَلَمْ يَتَوَضَّأْ. قُلْنَا لِعَمْرٍو إِنَّ نَاسًا يَقُولُونَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم تَنَامُ عَيْنُهُ وَلاَ يَنَامُ قَلْبُهُ. قَالَ عَمْرٌو سَمِعْتُ عُبَيْدَ بْنَ عُمَيْرٍ يَقُولُ رُؤْيَا الأَنْبِيَاءِ وَحْىٌ، ثُمَّ قَرَأَ {إِنِّي أَرَى فِي الْمَنَامِ أَنِّي أَذْبَحُكَ}.
Ibn `Abbas said, "The Prophet (ﷺ) slept till he snored and then prayed (or probably lay till his breath sounds were heard and then got up and prayed)." Ibn `Abbas added: "I stayed overnight in the house of my aunt, Maimuna, the Prophet (ﷺ) slept for a part of the night, (See Fath-al-Bari page 249, Vol. 1), and late in the night, he got up and performed ablution from a hanging water skin, a light (perfect) ablution and stood up for the prayer. I, too, performed a similar ablution, then I went and stood on his left. He drew me to his right and prayed as much as Allah wished, and again lay and slept till his breath sounds were heard. Later on the Mu'adh-dhin (call maker for the prayer) came to him and informed him that it was time for Prayer. The Prophet (ﷺ) went with him for the prayer without performing a new ablution." (Sufyan said to `Amr that some people said, "The eyes of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) sleep but his heart does not sleep." `Amr replied, "I heard `Ubaid bin `Umar saying that the dreams of Prophets were Divine Inspiration, and then he recited the verse: 'I (Abraham) see in a dream, (O my son) that I offer you in sacrifice (to Allah)." (37.102) (See Hadith No. 183)
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي كُرَيْبٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ قَالَ بِتُّ عِنْدَ خَالَتِي مَيْمُونَةَ لَيْلَةً، فَنَامَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَلَمَّا كَانَ فِي بَعْضِ اللَّيْلِ قَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَتَوَضَّأَ مِنْ شَنٍّ مُعَلَّقٍ وُضُوءًا خَفِيفًا ـ يُخَفِّفُهُ عَمْرٌو وَيُقَلِّلُهُ جِدًّا ـ ثُمَّ قَامَ يُصَلِّي، فَقُمْتُ فَتَوَضَّأْتُ نَحْوًا مِمَّا تَوَضَّأَ، ثُمَّ جِئْتُ فَقُمْتُ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ، فَحَوَّلَنِي فَجَعَلَنِي عَنْ يَمِينِهِ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ، ثُمَّ اضْطَجَعَ فَنَامَ حَتَّى نَفَخَ، فَأَتَاهُ الْمُنَادِي يُؤْذِنُهُ بِالصَّلاَةِ فَقَامَ مَعَهُ إِلَى الصَّلاَةِ، فَصَلَّى وَلَمْ يَتَوَضَّأْ. قُلْنَا لِعَمْرٍو إِنَّ نَاسًا يَقُولُونَ إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم تَنَامُ عَيْنُهُ وَلاَ يَنَامُ قَلْبُهُ. قَالَ عَمْرٌو سَمِعْتُ عُبَيْدَ بْنَ عُمَيْرٍ يَقُولُ إِنَّ رُؤْيَا الأَنْبِيَاءِ وَحْىٌ ثُمَّ قَرَأَ {إِنِّي أَرَى فِي الْمَنَامِ أَنِّي أَذْبَحُكَ}.
One night I slept at the house of my aunt Maimuna and the Prophet (ﷺ) slept (too). He got up (for prayer) in the last hours of the night and performed a light ablution from a hanging leather skin. (`Amr, the sub-narrator described that the ablution was very light). Then he stood up for prayer and I got up too and performed the ablution in the same way and joined him on his left side. He pulled me to the right and prayed as much as Allah will. Then he lay down and slept and I heard his breath sounds till the Mu'adh-dhin came to him to inform him about the (Fajr) prayer. He left with him for the prayer and prayed without repeating the ablution. (Sufyan the sub-narrator said: We said to `Amr, "Some people say, 'The eyes of the Prophet (ﷺ) sleep but his heart never sleeps.' " `Amr said, "'Ubai bin `Umar said, 'The dreams of the Prophets are Divine Inspirations. Then he recited, '(O my son), I have seen in dream that I was slaughtering you (offering you in sacrifice).") (37.102)
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدَةَ الضَّبِّيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثُ بْنُ أَبِي سُلَيْمٍ، عَنْ بِشْرٍ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " مَا مِنْ دَاعٍ دَعَا إِلَى شَيْءٍ إِلاَّ كَانَ مَوْقُوفًا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ لاَزِمًا لَهُ لاَ يُفَارِقُهُ وَإِنْ دَعَا رَجُلٌ رَجُلاً " . ثُمَّ قَرَأَ قَوْلَ اللَّهِ : ( وقِفُوهُمْ إِنَّهُمْ مَسْئُولُونَ * مَا لَكُمْ لاَ تَنَاصَرُونَ ) . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ .
that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "No caller invites to anything except that he is detained along with, on the Day of Resurrection, without parting from it, even if a man invites another man." Then he recited the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime: 'But stop them, verily they are to be questioned. What is the matter with you? Why do you not help one another (37:24 & 25).'"
وَعَنْ أَنَسٍ: أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا غَزَا بِنَا قَوْمًا لَمْ يَكُنْ يَغْزُو بِنَا حَتَّى يُصْبِحَ وَيَنْظُرَ إِلَيْهِمْ فَإِنْ سَمِعَ أَذَانًا كَفَّ عَنْهُمْ وَإِنْ لَمْ يَسْمَعْ أَذَانًا أَغَارَ عَلَيْهِمْ قَالَ: فَخَرَجْنَا إِلَى خَيْبَرَ فَانْتَهَيْنَا إِلَيْهِمْ لَيْلًا فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحَ وَلَمْ يسمَعْ أذاناً رِكبَ ورَكِبْتُ خلفَ أبي طلحةَ وَإِنَّ قَدَمِي لَتَمَسُّ قَدِمَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: فَخَرَجُوا إِلَيْنَا بَمَكَاتِلِهِمْ ومساحيهم فَلَمَّا رأى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالُوا: مُحَمَّدٌ واللَّهِ محمّدٌ والخميسُ فلَجؤوا إِلَى الْحِصْنِ فَلَمَّا رَآهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ خَرِبَتْ خَيْبَرُ إِنَّا إِذَا نَزَلْنَا بِسَاحَةِ قومٍ فساءَ صباحُ المُنْذَرينَ»
When the Prophet took us out on an expedition against a people he did not set out with us till the morning. He would look at them, and if he heard a call to prayer he refrained from them, but if he did not hear any he attacked them. We went out to Khaibar and reached them by night, but when the morning came and he heard no call to prayer he mounted. I mounted behind Abu Talha and my foot was touching God’s Prophet’s They came out to us with their large baskets and their spades, and when they saw the Prophet they said, “Muhammad, by God, Muhammad and the army," and went for refuge to the fortress. When God's Messenger saw them he said, “God is most great, God is most great.
