لقوْمٌ for a people
يُؤْمنُون who believe.

We narrate to you from the history of Moses and Pharaoh—in truth—for people who believe

28:4 Juz 20 * Page 385

Inna Fir'awna 'alaa fil ardi wa ja'ala ahlahaa shiya'ai yastad'ifu taaa'ifatam minhum yuzabbihu abnaaa'ahum wa yastahyee nisaaa'ahum; innahoo kaana minal mufsideen

إن Indeed,
Firaun
علا exalted himself
فى in
الْأرْض the land
وجعل and made
أهْلها its people
شيعًا (into) sects,
يسْتضْعفُ oppressing
طائفةً a group
منْهُمْ among them,
يُذبحُ slaughtering
أبْناءهُمْ their sons
ويسْتحْى and letting live
نساءهُمْ their women.
Indeed, he
كان was
من of
الْمُفْسدين the corrupters.

Pharaoh exalted himself in the land, and divided its people into factions. He persecuted a group of them, slaughtering their sons, while sparing their daughters. He was truly a corrupter

28:5 Juz 20 * Page 385

Wa nureedu an namunna 'alal lazeenas tud'ifoo fil ardi wa naj'alahum a'immatanw wa naj'alahumul waariseen

And We wanted
أن to
نمُن bestow a favor
على upon
الذين those who
اسْتُضْعفُوا were oppressed
فى in
الْأرْض the land
ونجْعلهُمْ and make them
أئمةً leaders
ونجْعلهُمُ and make them
الْورثين the inheritors,

But We desired to favor those who were oppressed in the land, and to make them leaders, and to make them the inheritors

28:6 Juz 20 * Page 386

Wa numakkina lahum fil ardi wa nuriya Fir'awna wa Haamaana wa junoodahumaa minhum maa kaanoo yahzaroon

And [We] establish
لهُمْ them
فى in
الْأرْض the land
ونُرى and show
Firaun
وهمن and Haman
وجُنُودهُما and their hosts
منْهُم through them
ما what
كانُوا they were
يحْذرُون fearing.

And to establish them in the land; and to show Pharaoh, Hamaan, and their troops, the very thing they feared

28:7 Juz 20 * Page 386

Wa awhainaaa ilaaa ummi Moosaaa an ardi'eehi faizaa khifti 'alaihi fa alqeehi filyammi wa laa takhaafee wa laa tahzaneee innaa raaaddoohu ilaiki wa jaa'iloohu minal mursaleen

And We inspired
إلى [to]
أُم (the) mother
مُوسى (of) Musa
أنْ that,
Suckle him,
فإذا but when
خفْت you fear
عليْه for him,
فألْقيه then cast him
فى in(to)
الْيم the river
ولا and (do) not
تخافى fear
ولا and (do) not
تحْزنى grieve.
Indeed, We
رادُوهُ (will) restore him
إليْك to you
وجاعلُوهُ and (will) make him
من of
الْمُرْسلين the Messengers."

We inspired the mother of Moses: “Nurse him; then, when you fear for him, cast him into the river, and do not fear, nor grieve; We will return him to you, and make him one of the messengers.”

28:8 Juz 20 * Page 386

Faltaqatahooo Aalu Fir'awna li yakoona lahum 'aduwwanw wa hazanaa; inna Fir'awna wa Haamaana wa junooda humaa kaanoo khaati'een

Then picked him up
ءالُ (the) family
فرْعوْن (of) Firaun
ليكُون so that he might become
لهُمْ to them
عدُوًا an enemy
وحزنًا and a grief.
إن Indeed,
Firaun
وهمن and Haman
وجُنُودهُما and their hosts
كانُوا were
خطـين sinners.

Pharaoh’s household picked him up, to be an opponent and a sorrow for them. Pharaoh, Hamaan, and their troops were sinners

28:9 Juz 20 * Page 386

Wa qaalatim ra atu Fir'awna qurratu 'aynil lee wa lak; laa taqtuloohu 'asaaa aiyanfa'anaa aw nattakhizahoo waladanw wa hum laa yash'uroon

And said
امْرأتُ (the) wife
فرْعوْن (of) Firaun,
A comfort

ولك and for you;
لا (Do) not
تقْتُلُوهُ kill him;
عسى perhaps
أن (that)
ينفعنا he may benefit us,
أوْ or
نتخذهُ we may take him
ولدًا (as) a son."
And they
لا (did) not
يشْعُرُون perceive.

Pharaoh’s wife said, “An eye's delight for me and for you. Do not kill him; perhaps he will be useful to us, or we may adopt him as a son.” But they did not foresee

28:10 Juz 20 * Page 386

Wa asbaha fu'aadu ummi Moosaa faarighan in kaadat latubdee bihee law laaa arrabatnaa 'alaa qalbihaa litakoona minal mu'mineen

And became
فُؤادُ (the) heart
أُم (of the) mother
مُوسى (of) Musa
فرغًا empty.
إن That,
كادتْ she was near
لتُبْدى (to) disclosing
به about him,
لوْلا if not
أن that
We strengthened
على [over]
قلْبها her heart,
لتكُون so that she would be
من of
الْمُؤْمنين the believers.

The heart of Moses’ mother became vacant. She was about to disclose him, had We not steadied her heart, that she may remain a believer

28:11 Juz 20 * Page 386

Wa qaalat li ukhtihee qusseehi fabasurat bihee 'an junubinw wahum laa yash'uroon

And she said
لأُخْته to his sister,
Follow him."
So she watched
به him
عن from
جُنُبٌ a distance
وهُمْ while they
لا (did) not
يشْعُرُون perceive.

She said to his sister, “Trail him.” So she watched him from afar, and they were unaware

28:12 Juz 20 * Page 386

Wa harramnaa 'alaihil maraadi'a min qablu faqaalat hal adullukum 'alaaa ahli baitiny yakfuloonahoo lakum wa hum lahoo naasihoon

And We had forbidden
عليْه for him
الْمراضع the wet nurses
من before,
قبْلُ before,
فقالتْ so she said,
هلْ "Sl I
أدُلُكُمْ direct you
على to
أهْل (the) people
بيْتٌ (of) a house
يكْفُلُونهُ who will rear him
لكُمْ for you
وهُمْ while they
لهُ to him
نصحُون (will be) sincere?"

We forbade him breastfeeding at first. So she said, “Shall I tell you about a family that can raise him for you, and will look after him?”

28:13 Juz 20 * Page 386

So We restored him
إلى to
أُمه his mother
كىْ that
تقر might be comforted
عيْنُها her eye,
ولا and not
تحْزن she may grieve
ولتعْلم and that she would know,
أن that
وعْد the Promise of Allah
الله the Promise of Allah
حق (is) true.
But
أكْثرهُمْ most of them
لا (do) not
يعْلمُون know.

Thus We returned him to his mother, that she may be comforted, and not grieve, and know that God’s promise is true. But most of them do not know

And thus
We reward
الْمُحْسنين the good-doers.

And when he reached his maturity, and became established, We gave him wisdom and knowledge. Thus do We reward the virtuous

28:15 Juz 20 * Page 387

And called him for help
الذى the one who

الذى the one who

مُوسى so Musa struck him with his fist
فقضى and killed him.
عليْه and killed him.
قال He said,
This (is)
منْ of
عمل (the) deed
الشيْطن (of) Shaitaan.
Indeed, he
عدُو (is) an enemy -
مُضل one who misleads
مُبين clearly."

Once he entered the city, unnoticed by its people. He found in it two men fighting—one of his own sect, and one from his enemies. The one of his sect solicited his assistance against the one from his enemies; so Moses punched him, and put an end to him. He said, “This is of Satan's doing; he is an enemy that openly misleads.”

28:16 Juz 20 * Page 387

Qaala Rabbi innee zalamtu nafsee faghfir lee faghafaralah; innahoo Huwal Ghafoorur Raheem

قال He said,
My Lord!
Indeed, I
[I] have wronged
نفْسى my soul,
فاغْفرْ so forgive

Then He forgave
لهُ [for] him.
Indeed He,
هُو He (is)
الْغفُورُ the Oft-Forgiving,
الرحيمُ the Most Merciful.

He said, “My Lord, I have wronged myself, so forgive me.” So He forgave him. He is the Forgiver, the Merciful

28:17 Juz 20 * Page 387

He said, “My Lord, in as much as you have favored me, I will never be a supporter of the criminals.”

Said
لهُ to him
Musa,
Indeed, you
لغوى (are) surely a deviator
مُبين clear."

The next morning, he went about in the city, fearful and vigilant, when the man who had sought his assistance the day before was shouting out to him. Moses said to him, “You are clearly a troublemaker.”

28:19 Juz 20 * Page 387
Inheritance

بالذى the one who

قال he said,
O Musa!

إن Not

جبارًا a tyrant
فى in
الْأرْض the earth,
وما and not
تُريدُ you want
أن that
تكُون you be
من of
الْمُصْلحين the reformers."

As he was about to strike the one who was their enemy, he said, “O Moses, do you intend to kill me, as you killed someone yesterday? You only want to be a bully in the land, and do not want to be a peacemaker.”

28:20 Juz 20 * Page 387

فاخْرُجْ so leave;
إنى indeed, I am
لك to you
من of
النصحين the sincere advisors."

And a man came from the farthest part of the city running. He said, “O Moses, the authorities are considering killing you, so leave; I am giving you good advice.”

28:21 Juz 20 * Page 387

Fakharaja minhaa khaaa 'ifany-yataraqqab; qaala Rabbi najjinee minal qawmiz zaalimeen

So he left
منْها from it
خائفًا fearing,
يترقبُ (and) vigilant.
قال He said,
My Lord!
Save me
من from
الْقوْم the people -
الظلمين the wrongdoers."

So he left, fearful and vigilant. He said, “My Lord, deliver me from the wrongdoing people.”

And when he arrived at the waters of Median, he found there a crowd of people drawing water, and he noticed two women waiting on the side. He said, “What is the matter with you?” They said, “We cannot draw water until the shepherds depart, and our father is a very old man.”
