Qul a'uzu birabbin naas

قُلْ Say,
أَعُوذُ "I seek refuge

Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind

Malikin naas

مَلِكِ (The) King

The King of mankind

إِلَٰهِ ٱلنَّاسِ 3

Ilaahin naas

إِلَٰهِ (The) God
ٱلنَّاسِ (of) mankind,

The God of mankind

مِن شَرِّ ٱلۡوَسۡوَاسِ ٱلۡخَنَّاسِ 4

Min sharril was waasil khannaas

مِن From
شَرِّ (the) evil
ٱلْوَسْوَاسِ (of) the whisperer,
ٱلْخَنَّاسِ the one who withdraws,

From the evil of the sneaky whisperer

ٱلَّذِي يُوَسۡوِسُ فِي صُدُورِ ٱلنَّاسِ 5

Al lazee yuwas wisu fee sudoorin naas

ٱلَّذِى The one who
يُوَسْوِسُ whispers
فِى in
صُدُورِ (the) breasts
ٱلنَّاسِ (of) mankind,

Who whispers into the hearts of people

مِنَ ٱلۡجِنَّةِ وَٱلنَّاسِ 6

Minal jinnati wan naas

مِنَ From
ٱلْجِنَّةِ the jinn
وَٱلنَّاسِ and men.

From among jinn and among people.”

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ‏:‏ حَدَّثَنَا الْمُفَضَّلُ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ، عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ، أُرَاهُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ‏:‏ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، إِذَا أَوَى إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ كُلَّ لَيْلَةٍ جَمَعَ كَفَّيْهِ فَنَفَثَ فِيهِمَا، وَقَرَأَ فِيهِمَا‏:‏ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ وَ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ وَ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ، ثُمَّ مَسَحَ بِهِمَا مَا اسْتَطَاعَ مِنْ جَسَدِهِ، يَبْدَأُ بِهِمَا رَأْسَهُ وَوَجْهَهُ وَمَا أَقْبَلَ مِنْ جَسَدِهِ، يَصْنَعُ ذَلِكَ ثَلاثَ مَرَّاتٍ‏.‏

"When Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) went to his mattress each night, he joined the palms of his hands, then breathed into them and recited into them: “Say: ‘He is Allah, One !' (Al-Qur'an;114:1), Then he passed them over as much of his body as he could, beginning with his head and his face and the front of his body, doing that three times.”
